About Me:

I’m Gabrielle, a Freelance Illustrator working out of my studio near Richmond, Virginia. In 2003, I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Fashion Design.

Since 2011, I have primarily been designing vector illustrations for machine embroidery at Embroiderydesigns.com. Keeping my designs simple enough for machine embroidery while communicating complex ideas is a challenge I have really come to enjoy, and it plays a key role in the design aesthetic I use today.

In 2014 I launched my own personal illustration brand, Running River Design. I began experimenting with all the different ways in which my illustrations could be used, creating seamless repeating patterns for fabric and wallpaper, and developing art for print-on-demand products.

As the pandemic of 2020 hit, and my time at home increased, I decided to dive into learning how to actually machine embroider the kinds of designs I had previously only known on a computer screen. This decision ignited a new passion of mine, and bridged the gap between my fashion design background and love for illustration.

In addition to digital illustration and embroidery design, I also enjoy using traditional techniques such as gouache and ink. When I’m not creating things, you can find me volunteering with RVA Community Fridges (a local mutual aid organization), or going on slow walks through the forest with my family to scout out mushrooms and marvel at all the wonders Mother Nature presents to us.
